  Bowie Earns UIL Lone Star Cup for Academic, Fine Arts and Athletic Accomplishments

August 27, 2010 - The University Interscholastic League (UIL) recently announced the winner of the UIL Lone Star Cup, honoring the best overall athletic and academic programs in Texas. Bowie High School was one of the 12 winners in the UIL 5A category this year.

Austin School Superintendent Dr. Meria Carstarphen shares her vision for the development of a Challenger Learning Center at the Austin School District with educators and city, state and Austin Community College, Huston Tillotson, St. Edward's University and University of Texas representatives. The Center which simulates a realistic Mission Control room and orbiting Space Station, instantly launches students into the world of science. The kick-off luncheon was hosted by Austin entrepreneur and Astronaut Richard Garriot (center), who said, "Challenger Learning Centers are world class learning centers where students are transformed into scientists, engineers and mathematicians through simulated space missions solving real life challenges."
